S4 Episode #25- Gary Thomas

THE ONE WITH GARY THOMAS

This week we are thrilled to welcome Gary Thomas back to the show for the third time! It’s not a question of if your marriage will face trials. It’s a question of when. In his new book, Making Your Marriage a Fortress: Strengthening Your Marriage to Withstand Life’s Storms, Gary Thomas prepares couples to keep their marriage together when it feels like the world is determined to rip it apart. In this episode, Gary shares encouragement and practical advice for married and single people alike!

Former Collected Podcast guest, Sara Hagerty said of the book, “Now, more than ever, our marriages are under siege. Now, more than ever, we need them to be fortresses. Gary Thomas’s sage wisdom—pulling in stories from all across the body of Christ and weaving them with God’s Word—is fortress building. At twenty- plus years into marriage, I have found this book to be a gift to read.

Gary Thomas’s writing and speaking focuses on bringing people closer to Christ and closer to others. He is the author of twenty books that together have sold over two million copies and have been translated into more than a dozen languages. These books include Sacred Marriage, Cherish, Married Sex, and the Gold Medallion–award winner Authentic Faith.

Gary holds a BA in English Literature from Western Washington University, an MA degree in systematic theology from Regent College (Vancouver, BC), and an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Western Seminary (Portland, OR).

READ

about the book

In each section of the book, you’ll meet a different couple who faced life’s toughest trials - illness, financial burdens, the loss of a child, infidelity and more. Through their honest reflections, readers will learn how each couple’s actions and faith in God strengthen their marriage. Leaving their relationship closer, more mature, more loving, and more committed prior to crisis hitting.

Gary Thomas, author of popular marriage book Sacred Marriage, encourages couples to make their marriage a fortress in anticipation of the unknown. Doing so will help your marriage be a refuge in troubled times rather than part of the problem. Making Your Marriage a Fortress gives couples tangible examples of the strength God provides within marriages. It will also guide couples in building a marriage that can withstand any storm or difficult season, including:

  • Appreciating and Supporting Your Spouse When Illness Strikes

  • Repairing Your Marriage After Infidelity

  • Does the Kind of Sex You Have Matter?

  • How facing financial calamity can bring you together instead of pull you apart

  • How giving birth to a child can build intimacy instead of distance

  • How to stay connected when your schedule threatens to tear you apart

  • Tips to Help Your Marriage Thrive When a Spouse Travels for Work

Every marriage will face setbacks and seasons of disappointment, but this book will help you keep your marriage strong before and after a setback happens.
