Type 1: The Idealist
Help them celebrate life and experience the joy in life. Help them break from from their mode of self-criticism and create the space for them to enjoy life without feeling like they have to fix anything. Even if there are still 3 more tasks on the to-do list, we can take a break to do something that brings joy.
Type 2: The Helper
Put yourself in their shoes and plan them a day or date that they would have done for you. Try to put your brain into the thoughtful mode of a 2 and proactively plan a sweet surprise that they don’t have to initiate.
Type 3: The Achiever
“Catch them”… 3’s have a tendency to overwork themselves and see their value in light of their accomplishments. One day they will burn out, so be there to catch them. Create space for them to let their hair down and tumble into you when they can’t sustain their regular pace.
Type 4: The Individualist
Avoid invalidating language as they are processing information with you. 4’s crave being understood, so allowing them to process their raw emotions without trying to fix it will make them feel safe and respected.
Type 5: The Observer
Respecting their space in the first way to love them very well. 5s social battery depletes faster than any number, and then genuinely need space to recharge in order show up in the world.
Type 6: The Loyalist
Take their worries and concerns into consideration. Allow them to flush out their concerns and go to their “worst case scenario” with them as they process through it. Rather than trying to disable their worry, allow them to bring it to light with you.
Type 7: The Enthusiast
Take them seriously. Yes, allow them to dream flippantly and passionately, but also also recognize their depth and take their ideas seriously. Take their excitement seriously and recognize it as something that is genuine.
Type 8: The Challenger
Accept and love them for their intensity. The often feel that they are “too much” in relationships. Give them the space to be their full selves without nit-picking their intensity. Be genuine with them. 8’s respect and appreciate honesty.
Type 9: The Peacemaker
Respect their struggle with conflict. They often know how to deal with conflict in a healthy way and they need time to process before they say something. This process needs to be respected— give them all the time they need. Allow them to be who they are created to be in the midst of conflict. Give them the space and pace to say what they need to say.
Final Thoughts
Assume less, love more! Assume less about yourself, God, others, your circumstances… rather, take the moment to extend love and compassion.
