S5 Episode #18- Christel Owoo
THE ONE With CHRISTEL OWOO
This week I’m so excited to welcome Christel Owoo to the podcast! Christel is a passionate confidence coach, author, mom, and women’s ministry leader. She finds great joy in empowering women and helping them embrace their identity and purpose in Christ. In this episode, Chritsel shares the powerful story of how she encountered God in Ghana and became a Christ-follower after over two decades of being an atheist. She encourages listeners to walk in the confidence of the power that we have when we are in Christ!
MORE ABOUT CHRISTEL
Based on her personal life experience, her Christian coaching practice, and the Word of God, Christel wrote The God of New Beginnings. She is currently laying the last hand on her next book, I can do it! Finding confidence in Christ. She writes for Christian Women Living Magazine and Pray With Confidence, and has her own blog in which she encourages women to grow in faith and become confident no matter what life throws at them.
Christel knows difficulties and trials can make us feel downcast, powerless, and without a clue about what to do. With her true and encouraging story about overcoming a sudden spinal injury, she won a writing contest of Christian Writers for Life. The book ‘Triumph from Tragedy’ features her story.
Dutch by birth, Christel is married to Mr. Dowuona Owoo, a Ghanaian and thriving gospel artist (NDowuona Music). God blessed them with a handsome young chap. Swimming is Christel’s go-to activity outside of writing and coaching.
Through purpose and strength-based coaching, Christel empowers Christian women to reconnect with their God-given purpose. She believes God has a plan for each of us, no matter our backgrounds, circumstances, or the trials we face.

READ
Christel grew up in the Netherlands as a strict atheist. For over two decades, she hated Christians. Then, when Christel was 25 years old, she took an internship in Ghana, Africa. While in Ghana, God radically brought countless people into her path from every angle to show her God’s love and help her see that God is real.
We cannot wash ourselves from our sins. We need God to wash us of our sins.
WHEN SAYING ‘YES’ TO GOD MEANS GIVING UP SOMETHING ELSE
Christel never looked back after giving her ‘yes’ to God, but it wasn't always easy. Her family and closest friends didn’t support her decision to follow Christ– they thought that she had been brainwashed.
Christel lost the life that she used to know, but she knew she was on the right path.
She gives encouragement to those who have had to give up something they love in order to give God their ‘yes’...
Stay close to God. Rely on His Word. Spend time in the Word of God every day. You can choose what you keep in your mind and what you cast out.
Focusing on what God has given you and filling your mind with the truth of His character and what He says about you. You have the power to take every thought captive by the power of Christ. Once you cast out the negative thoughts, you must fill it back up with affirmations of Christ.
Always remember why you choose God in the first place. When you miss your past life, keep your mind focused on what God did for you and the hope and peace that you have in Him alone.
BIBLICAL AFFIRMATIONS
Free resources from Christel:
WHO AM I IN CHRIST PRINTABLE (30 statements)
Any Scripture can be turned into an affirmation. One of Christel’s favorite is:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Christel’s latest book is about this exact idea! Book: I can do it! Finding confidence in Christ
Topics in the book:
What is self-confidence?
What does God say about confidence in Him?
How do we make confidence in Christ become a habit?
How can we remain alert?
YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST
You are chosen. You are free. You are loved. You are blessed. You are more than a conqueror. You’re an overcomer. You are precious. You are righteous.
You can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens you.
Christ has already done the work to bring you freedom from the weight that you are carrying.
MIRROR LOOKING
Say the words out loud: “God loves me.”
Say it again, “GOD LOVES ME!”
Say it out loud every single day. Look in the mirror and say, “God loves me.”
Over time, filling your mind with the truth that you are loved by God will transform you!
CHRISTIAN COACHING
Christel helps to draw out of people what God has already placed in them.
What ignites your passion?
What has God uniquely designed you to do?
THE CHARACTER OF GOD
He is love.
He doesn't give up on us.
No matter how many times we fall down, we can always get up again because of God. Even if we think everything is over, God is still there.
He is faithful, He will never leave us.
God can accomplish through you more than you could ever do on your own.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Don’t give up! It can be very tempting to give up when things get hard, but God is on your side! God will always come through, He will always make a way. Keep your eyes on God!
A WORD FROM JES
Jehovah Shammah- The Lord is There… The first time we see this name in the Bible is in the book of Ezekiel, when the prophet receives a vision of God– Jehovah Shammah– in the New Jerusalem.. At this point, the Isrealites have been in captivity in Babylon for 25 years. The temple and city was in ruins, and yet this vision from God was a reminder that God is still there in the city and with His people– even when they are in captivity because of their sin. This name is a powerful reminder to the ancient Israelites that God has NOT forsaken them, He was there with them, and He will be faithful to fulfill His promises. This name is also a powerful reminder to us that wherever we are, whatever our circumstance, God is there. You are not forsaken or forgotten, no matter what you have done!
