S3 Episode #1- Tammy Garrett
THE ONE WITH TAMMY GARRETT
Married to her high school sweetheart, Tammy has two young adult children. She is a veteran homeschool mom of 15 years, a former pediatric nurse, and an occasional writer with a heart to see racial healing in America. She is co-founder of Father’s House Ghana, a community outreach center and home for children rescued from trafficking and exploitation in Ghana, West Africa. As an Enneagram 9, her ability to see both sides of a situation fuels her desire to stand with compassion in spaces where others see only division. Tammy’s life is a picture of how God, in His goodness and faithfulness, can take the simple day-to-day obedience of “just a mom” and lead her to a greater adventure than she would have ever dared to dream on her own.

Sometimes God is doing something different and bigger than we could have ever expected!
Take your first step in obedience and God will lead you to the next thing in the right time.
Tammy and her husband thought they were setting out to create an orphanage, when God showed them the reality of child trafficking in Ghana.
Children work for 16 hours a day in terrible conditions. They face physical, sexual and emotional abuse, abandonment and extreme poverty.
In 2011 the house was finished and Tammy and her husband recused their first 8 boys from Lake Volta.
“Long before we knew about child slavery on Lake Volta, we felt a calling to disciple young men in Ghana. As we lead the boys in our care to discover and become all that God has created them to be, they are arising with the love of Christ and a sense of justice that will empower them to bring about social changes in their community, their country, and the world.”
Everyone has a “just”... I’m “just” a mom. I’m “just” a student…
However the Bible reminds us to not despise the place of small beginnings. To “despise” can mean to overlook or ignore. Do not overlook the place where God has you in this season.
You are impacting so many more people than you realize. Some of which you will never know. Don’t underestimate the importance of where God has you right now.
Everything you say “yes” to means a “no” to something else. However, the sacrifices that you make will be worth it when you are following the things that God has laid on your heart.
In all you do, make sure you are preserving the relationships that God has entrusted to you.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Everything you take in is either feeding fear or faith. Be careful of what you are putting into your mind and heart.
God is trustworthy. He has our best interests in mind-- even when we can imagine what it might look like. We don’t know what the future holds and what God is preparing us for.
Small acts of obedience along the way will prepare you for all the things God has planned for you.
More About A Father’s House:
In 2011, our first eight boys were rescued from lives of slavery in the fishing villages of Lake Volta and brought HOME to Father’s House Ghana. After ten years of frequent visits and developing friendship with a local pastor and his family, God had given our founders a vision to build a children’s home in the West African country they had grown to love. Our family continues to grow as more children find safety from desperate situations within our walls. Our mission today remains true to our original calling—to raise disciples of Jesus Christ as we provide a safe and loving haven for those at high risk or rescued from slavery and exploitation.
Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.
Isaiah 1:17
